Pretzel Crisps® Chocolate Covered Fall Leaves
These beautiful edible fall leaves are wonderful to serve alone, or place on a cake as decoration. Use Pretzel Crisps® for their flat and easy to work with surface.
Pretzel Crisps® (original or gluten free)
Orange, red and yellow candy melts
Orange, red and yellow luster dust
Begin by breaking three Pretzel Crisps® up to combine together to form a leaf. For two of the Pretzel Crisps®, you will remove a bottom triangle in the middle. For the third Pretzel Crisps®, you will break off the two rounded portions, leaving the middle triangle.
Use the tips of your fingers to slowly break off a little at a time. The smaller the amount, the less likely you are to crack the entire Pretzel.
Combine 1 tsp shortening with 1/2 cup candy melts in a bowl. Heat in microwave for 20 seconds at 50% power. Stir, then heat again, repeating until smooth and melted.
Dip triangle piece into candy melt and shake off excess chocolate. Dip the remaining two pretzel pieces, then form all three together in a leaf shape.
Once cool and hardened, dip a food-safe paintbrush in water, then in matching colored luster dust to form a paste. Paint on veins of leaf.
Melt a Tootsie Roll in a microwave for about 5-10 seconds to soften. Slice into 3 pieces. Roll one piece out, then press into the back of a leaf to form a stem.
